Zaryadye Park
Moscow, Russia
After its opening in 2017, the Zaryadye Park has become one of the most visited public spaces in Moscow.
In 2013, the Government of Moscow commissioned an international competition to develop the area of Zaryadye, the oldest trading settlement outside the Kremlin, situated right next to Moscow’s Red Square. Arup developed the Lighting Design through to completion, together with Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Hargreaves Jones, Citymakers and Transsolar, among others. The concept develops around two light phenomena to enhance and celebrate the natural beauty of Russian landscapes: 'smoothly glowing and pointillist sparkle'. The team also developed a custom pole and fixture family with a global lighting manufacturer which provides an emblematic physical presence and orientates the visitor throughout the park.
