Timber Wave

V&A London, UK

This project was awarded the Judges’ Special Award at The Wood Awards and also the Spatial Design/Installations award at the D&AD Awards, both in 2012.

‘Timber Wave‘ builds on a collection of installations that demonstrate the qualities of American hardwood. Visible from a long way down the Cromwell Road, the 12m high red oak installation had a strong urban image impact. The proposal from Seam was “let light to pass through the arch to create an intricate set of patterns on the facade, beautifully unifying the composition for a powerful identity at night and a new experience for the visitor”. The installation celebrated the London Design Festival’s temporary residency at the V&A in 2011, by giving the museum a new portal and urban presence during the event.
